Gomez Leads Bulldogs to First Win of the Season, Hancock Tops Sequoias 3-2

A flurry of three goals within three minutes proved to be enough as the Allan Hancock College men's soccer team scored its first win of the season 3-2 over visiting College of the Sequoias on Friday. Hancock improved to 1-2 on the season, and COS fell to 1-1.

Jonathan Gutierrez scored the first goal of the game in the 20th minute on an unassisted score. Hancock answered 10 minutes later on an unassisted goal by Migel Gomez, the freshman forward's second of the season.

The Bulldogs took the lead for good five minutes later when Javier Rios found the back of the net for his first goal of the year on a ball assisted by Gomez. Hancock scored again in the 36th minute when Carlos Paredes fed the ball to Gomez, who cashed in his second goal of the game to give Hancock a 3-1 lead into halftime.

College of the Sequoias cut the deficit in half in the 50th minute when Gutierrez cashed in a penalty kick. The Bulldogs held on the rest of the way for the victory.

Hancock finished with 22 total shots, including six on goal. Gomez had seven shots, while Jorge Guzman had three, including one on frame.

Elijah Herrera started the game in goal for Hancock and faced one shot on frame. Jose Cardenas recorded five saves in the second half to secure the win.

Hancock will return to action Tuesday against West Hills Lemoore at 4 p.m.
