Hancock Men's Soccer and Bakersfield Each Score for Early Season 1-1 Tie

Allan Hancock College men's soccer were aiming to remain perfect on the season while making an attempt to avenge their 4-1 loss last year against Bakersfield College.

Bakersfield's sophomore Alberto Munoz put the Renegades up first in the 38th minute. Bulldogs answered back with an equalizer from sophomore Migel Gomez, a Cabrillo High School graduate, in the 80th minute. Gomez, who led the Bulldogs in points last year with 21 (10 goals and 11 assists), now leads the team with two goals. Freshman Jose Sanchez, an Orcutt Academy graduate, assisted on the Gomez goal.

"We had possession for most of the game and couldn't anything to go in," said head coach Billy Vinnedge, of his team's performance. "It's good to see how well the team is playing so early in the season."

The Bulldogs took 23 shots, with 10 of them on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Anthony Herrera, a Righetti High School graduate, wasn't able to record a save as the Renegades only had one shot on goal.

The Bulldogs will finish their three-homestand Friday, September 1, at 4 p.m., as they host Taft.

"Taft will be a big test for our team," said Vinnedge. "They are always one of the top teams in the state."
