Hat-Trick by Herrera Leads Bulldogs to 3-2 Come-From-Behind Win Over Victor Valley

With his team trailing 2-0 in the second half and playing one-man down, freshman Alex Herrera scored three times to lead the Allan Hancock College men's soccer to a come-from-behind win over visiting Victor Valley 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved to 7-2-1 on the season, continuing the program's best start since 2010.

Herrera, a Lompoc High School graduate, recorded the program's first hat-trick since 2015.

Victor Valley scored twice in the first half on goals from Miguel Zarate in the 25th minute and another by Jeremy Holguin in the 37th minute.

The Bulldogs cut the deficit in half in the 65th minute when sophomore Migel Gomez connected with Herrera, who scored this first goal of the game. Gomez and Mario Delgado were credited with assists on Herrera's second goal of the game that came in the 72th minute, tying the game at 2-2. The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the 80th minute when Herrera buried the game-winning goal. Ulysses Cardona and Gomez assisted on the score. Gomez, a sophomore, was credited with three assists on the day giving him 10 on the season. The Cabrillo High School graduate had 10 goals and 11 assists as a freshman at Hancock in 2016.

Herrera, Cardona and Gomez are tied for the team-lead in goals with five apiece.

The Bulldogs finished with 23 total shots. Freshman goalie Antony Herrera recorded four saves in the net for the Bulldogs.

Hancock will return to action on Friday, September 29, at 2 p.m. at Citrus College.
