Hancock Men's Soccer Looks to Climb WSC Standings This Week

The Hancock soccer team will look to climb the Western State Conference standings this week. The Bulldogs are 2-4 in league and 10-6-2 overall. The Bulldogs will travel to Santa Monica on Tuesday, October 31 for a 1 p.m. game before hosting Moorpark Friday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m.

Last week, Hancock split its two conference games. Hancock opened with a 3-2 come-from-behind win at home against L.A. Mission. Hancock trailed 2-0 in the second half until the Bulldogs scored three times in a 10-minute period. Ulysses Cardona (Lompoc HS), Migel Gomez (Cabrillo HS) and Francisco Ayala (Pioneer Valley HS) each scored for the Bulldogs. Hancock finished the week with a 3-1 loss at first-place Santa Barbara. Cardona scored in the 24th minute. Goalie Antony Herrera (Righetti HS) made eight saves against the Vaqueros.

Cardona leads the conference and ranks third in the state with 13 goals. Gomez sits sixth in California with 12 goals, second overall with 40 points and third with16 assists. Gomez leads the WSC-North in points and assists.

Santa Monica is 12-1-4 overall and 4-0-2 in league, one point behind first-place Santa Barbara. Santa Monica defeated Hancock 2-1 in early October. Gomez scored in the seventh minute to account for Hancock's goal. Danny Hernandez and Giancarlo Canas-Jarquin scored for Santa Monica. Carlos Rincon, a sophomore, leads the team with nine goals, while sophomore Any Naidu ranks second with seven goals and a team-best 10 assists.

Moorpark is 1-4-1 in league and 3-8-4 on the year. Freshman forward Caleb Malabo leads the team with five goals. Hancock trounced Moorpark 6-1 on the road two weeks ago. Gomez and Cardona each scored twice in the win. Gomez added three assists. Freshman Andres Montano (Santa Maria HS) and Ayala found the back of the net once in the win.
