Five Men's Soccer Players Earn All-Conference Recognition

Five Allan Hancock College men's soccer players have scored All-Western State Conference recognition. Sophomore midfielder Saul Ayuso earned a spot on the All-WSC First Team. Sophomore forward Ulysses Cardona and freshman midfielder Juan Chavez were All-WSC Second Team picks. Forward Andres Montano and goalkeeper Antony Herrera, both sophomores, received honorable mention.

Ayuso, a second team pick last season, scored four goals and recorded a team-high 11 assists during his sophomore season. The midfielder scored twice and had an assist in a 4-1 win over Santa Barbara City College. The Santa Maria High School graduate also recorded two assists in a game on two occasions this season. His 11 assists ranked second in the Western State Conference and 14th in the state.

Cardona tied for the conference lead and ranked No. 9 in the state with 15 goals. The Lompoc High School graduate also had three assists. Cardona, a first team pick in 2017, scored two more or goals in five games his sophomore season, including a hat-trick against West Hills Lemoore. Cardona finished his Hancock career as one of the program's most prolific scorers with 29 goals, nine assists, and 67 points.

Chavez ranked second on the team with six goals and second with seven assists. The Delta High School graduate scored twice, including the game-winning goal against Glendale. He scored another game-winning goal against West Hills Lemoore.

Montano scored five times and had five assists during his sophomore season. The Santa Maria High School graduate scored two goals in a 2-2 draw with Citrus. In two seasons with Hancock, he finished with seven career goals.

A Righetti High School product, Herrera led the conference this fall with 88 saves. The sophomore allowed 57 goals for a save percentage of .607. In two seasons manning the Hancock goalie, Herrera finished with 170 career saves and a .625 save percentage.

The Bulldogs finished the 2018 season 6-12-3 overall and 1-8 in Western State Conference play.
