PREVIEW: Men's & Women's Swimming Set for WSC Championship

VALLEY GLEN, Calif. - Championship seasons is set to begin this weekend for the Allan Hancock College swimming programs as they are set to compete at the 2023 Western State Conference Championship. The league meet will take place on Thursday and Saturday (4/20-4/22) at the LAVC Aquatics Center in Valley Glen. | PSYCH SHEETS

Emma Marsalek stands atop the list of individuals ranked for the women's team heading into the event with conference-best times in the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,650-yard freestyle. The Santa Maria native has also clocked the second-fastest time across all league competitors in the 400-yard individual medley. Lizzie Hernandez holds a runner-up time in the 200-yard backstroke, just four seconds ahead of fellow teammate Jada Brown who enters with the third-fastest mark. Brown also rounds out the top times on the women's side with a second place ranking in the 200-yard butterfly. 

Max Peclie - last year's WSC Champion in both the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke - enters the weekend for the men's team with top times in three events: 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard individual medley, and 200-yard backstroke. Jarred Torres holds the second-fastest time in both the 500-yard and 200-yard freestyle events along with the 1,650-yard freestyle. Ryan Lacaste also enters with a pair of runner-up times in the 400-yard individual medley and 200-yard butterfly, while Jericho Orcino turned in the second-fastest time in the 200-yard breaststroke.
