Springer, Dionisio Win Events During WSC North Meet

Jared Springer won the men's shot put and Brent Dionisio finished first in the men's high jump to highlights the Allan Hancock College men's track and and field team's performance during the Western State Conference North Meet at Bakersfield College on Friday.

Springer, a freshman, captured the title with a season-best throw of 42 feet. The Nipomo High School graduate finished second in the hammer throw (123-8) and in the discus throw. He recorded a season-best throw of 141-8. Springer also set a personal-best in the javelin throw with a top throw of 118-3.

Dionisio won the high jump with a season-best clearance of 6-6. The freshman's previous top mark this season was 6-3. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate set a career-best in the long jump with a mark of 19-9.5.

Freshman Kendrick Keszler came in third in the triple jump with a mark of 43-10.He also recorded a season-best jump of 19-11 in the long jump.

St. Joseph High School graduate Alex Bolton, a Hancock freshman, earned four points for Hancock with a fourth place finish in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 11-5.75. Sophomore Khalil Mondol added 1.5 points when his top mark of 10-6 earned a fifth place finish in the pole vault.

Freshman Jericho Worrell was Hancock's only top-five finisher in track events. Worrell finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.1 seconds.

Hancock finished sixth in the overall team standings with 51.5 points. The Cuesta men won the meet with 143 total points, followed by Santa Barbara at 115 and College of the Canyons with 97 points. The host Renegades finished fourth with 84 points and Ventura finished fifth with 64.5.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, March 7, at the Bakersfield Relays.
