Springer Wins Shot Put, Bulldogs Finish Fourth at WSC Coastal Meet

Freshman Jared Springer won the men's shot put, while he and Kendrick Keszler finished runner-up in two other field events for the Allan Hancock College men's track and field team during the Western State Conference's Coastal Meet on Friday at Cuesta College.

The Bulldogs finished fourth in the overall team standings with 72 points Santa Barbara won the meet with 205 points.

Springer won the discus throw with a top mark of 132 feet, six inches. He also finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 131-7, and in the shot put with a throw of 44-2.5. Springer accounted for 26 points. Keszler finished fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 5-8.75, as well as runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 21-8 and in the triple jump with a top jump of 44-2.75 to account for 20 points.

Sophomore sprinter Jonathon General was clocked in the 100 meter dash in 11.18 seconds for a third place finish and six points. General won the Western State Conference individual title last year. He also finished fourth in the long jump with a top mark of 20-6.5.

Francisco Betancourt earned one point for Hancock with a sixth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 19.87 seconds.

Freshman Alex Bolton cleared 12 feet, six inches in the pole vault to earn four points for Hancock, while Travis Eskew finished sixth to earn one point by clearing 9-0.25.
