Trio of Hancock Men's Track and Field Athletes Headed to SoCal Regional Prelims

Western State Conference discus throw champion Jared Springer, as well as fellow freshmen Brent Dionisio and Kendrick Keszler will represent the Bulldogs at the Southern California Regional Preliminaries this Saturday at Cerritos College. The trio qualified with their top six finishes during the Western State Conference Finals.

Springer, a Nipomo High School graduate, won the men's discus throw with a toss of 144 feet, nine inches. He also finished runner-up in the shot put and hammer throw competitions. His top throw at the finals in the shot put was 45-4.25. He broke his own school record by 11 feet in the hammer throw when he registered a throw of 146-10.  He will compete at SoCals in all three events.  Springer's top throw this season in the shot put (45-8.5) ranks ninth in the region, eigth in the discus throw (146-6), and 12th in the hammer throw.

Dionisio qualified with a fourth place finish in the men's high jump at the conference finals. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate's top clearance this season of 6-6 is tied for seventh among jumpers in Southern California. 

Keszler, a Nipomo High School graduate, qualified in the triple jump with a sixth place finish at the WSC Finals. His top mark this season of 44-2.75 ranks 16th among Southern California athletes this season.

The top nine in the men's high jump, as well as the top 12 in the men's triple jump and throwing events during the prelims qualify for the finals. The Southern California Regional Finals will be on Saturday, May 9, at Cerritos College.

Last year, Steven de Comarmond, Jonathon General, Bruce Detter and Gregory Uzueta participated at the SoCal Prelims.
