Nevitt and Nickelson Win Events at WSC North Meet

Taylor Nevitt won two throwing events and finished second in two others, while Luke Nickelson took first in an event and second in two more to lead the Allan Hancock College track and field teams during the Western State Conference North Meet at Bakersfield College on Friday.

Nevitt, a redshirt freshman, continued to perform well in throwing events. The Nipomo High School graduate won the women's shot put with a mark of 38 feet, 6.25 inches, and finished first in the discus throw at 131-1. Nevitt also finished second in the hammer throw (109-4.5) and javelin throw (80-10).

Nickelson won the men's triple jump event with a mark of 43-7.25. The freshman also came in second in the high jump with a season-best clearance of 6-4. The Nipomo High School graduate also finished runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 21-2.

Darrylnotay Hines finished fourth in the men's javelin with a top mark of 136-6. Steven Youngblood recorded two top eight finishes by placing sixth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:17, and eighth in the 3,000 with a time of 9:26. 

On the women's side, Rachel Naugle came in runner-up in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:29. She also placed fifth in the 1,500 when she was clocked in 5:06.

Hancock returns to action March 12 at the Bakersfield Relays.
