Nickelson Finishes Fourth, Sets Season Highs at Cal Poly Invitational

Freshman Luke Nickelson set two season-best marks representing the Allan Hancock College track and field team at the Cal Poly Share.com Invitational on Saturday.

The Nipomo High School graduate finished fourth in the men's triple jump with a mark of 45 feet, 2.5 inches. He also came in fourth in the men's long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 0.25 inch. Nickelson finished ahead of eight athletes from four-year universities in the long jump competition. Kazuya Kawasaki out of Japan won with a mark of 23-6.5.

Hancock's Darrylnotay Hines finished eighth in the men's javelin throw with a mark of 116-11.5.

Rachel Naugle finished sixth in her heat of the women's 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:08.67. She finished 20th out of 34 total runners. In the men's 1,500, freshman Alec DeLeon finished 14th in his heat with a time of 4:19.35. Steven Youngblood came in 16th at 4:23.74. They placed 27th and 29th overall out of 35, including several athletes from four-year universities.

DeLeon finished sixth in the men's 5K with a time of 16:20.14. The freshman crossed the line before three athletes from four-year institutions. Youngblood came in 11th out of 13 with a time of 17:04.36.

In the men's 100 meter dash, Jaylin Amerson was clocked in 11.56 seconds. Hines ran it in 12.38 seconds. Amerson finished 11th overall out of 17 athletes.

The Bulldogs will return to action Friday, April 1, at the Western State Conference Coastal Meet at Cuesta College.
