Dionisio Soars to High Jump Victory at Cal Poly Invitational, Rodriguez Wins Pole Vault at Bakersfield Relays

Sophomore Brent Dionisio tied a career high by clearing six feet, nine inches to win the men's high jump competition during the ShareSLO/Cal Poly Invitational Saturday in San Luis Obispo. Dionisio out-jumped 11 other athletes in the event, including 10 from four-year universities like Cal Poly, Fresno State and Cal State Bakersfield. It marked the second straight week he won a high jump event by clearing 6-9.

 

Sophomore Taylor Nevitt finished sixth in the women's shot put with a mark of 35 feet, 5 inches, as well as a 13th place effort in the discus throw with a top mark of 103-1. The Nipomo High School graduate threw farther than an athlete from San Francisco State and Cuesta College in both events.

 

The Bulldogs also earned two wins at the Bakersfield College Relays on Saturday. Freshman Jose Rodriguez won the men's pole vault event by clearing 14-2. He also finished fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.47 seconds.

 

Sophomore Rachel Naugle won the women's steeplechase event, which she finished in 12:40. She also placed fifth in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 20:01.

 

Sophomore runner Steven Youngblood came in third in the men's steeplechase with a time of 10:16, and eighth in both the 5K and 1,500 meter run.

 

The Hancock track and field team will return to action Friday, March 31, at the Western State Conference Coastal Meet hosted by Cuesta College.
