Dionisio, Nevitt and Youngblood Earn Wins at WSC Coastal Meet

Allan Hancock College track and field's Brent Dionisio soared to two individual wins, while Steven Youngblood and Taylor Nevitt each won one event during the Western State Conference Coastal Meet hosted by Cuesta College on Friday afternoon.

Dionisio started the day by taking the men's long jump event with a top distance of 21 feet, two inches to secure 10 points for the team standings. He edged the runner-up by 0.5 inch. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate later won the high jump by clearing 6-4. It marked the third straight week Dionisio won a high jump event. The sophomore beat 10 athletes from four-year universities last week when he cleared 6-9 to win the Share SLO/Cal Poly Invitational.

Youngblood won the men's 3,000-meter run by crossing the finish line in 9:15.07. He edged the runner-up by 1.59 seconds to earn 10 points for Hancock. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate finished third in the men's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:08.31 to earn six more points. He finished less than one second behind the second-place runner.

Nevitt earned points with top-six finishes in four throwing events for the Bulldogs. She won the women's shot put event with a top toss of 35 feet, six inches to secure 10 points for the Hancock women. The reigning conference champion in the shot put won the event by five inches over Alana Ochoa of Santa Barbara City College. The Nipomo High School graduate also finished second in the discus throw with a top mark of 108-10. She finished sixth in the javelin (74-6), and fifth in the hammer throw (105-6).

Rachel Naugle finished third in the women's 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:16.29. She also finished sixth in the 800-meter run. The sophomore crossed the line in 2:30.46.

Freshman Ben Wulfestieg earned two points with a fifth-place finish in the javelin throw with a top mark of 129 feet, eight inches. The Cabrillo High School graduate also came in sixth in the shot put with a toss of 38-8.25.

Freshman Jose Rodriguez soared to a second-place finish at the Coastal Meet by clearing a personal-best 14 feet, 5.25 inches. His previous PR was 14-2. The Cabrillo High School graduate won the pole vault event last week in Bakersfield.

The Hancock men and women's teams finished fifth place overall in the team standings.

Next week, Hancock will compete at the Glendale College Invitational.
