Batty Wins Long Jump, Bulldogs Earn Eight Top-Seven Finishes at WSC Relays

Allan Hancock College's Haleigh Batty won her second straight women's long jump event to open her collegiate career on Friday, one of eight top-seven performances by the Bulldogs during the Western State Conference Relays in Bakersfield.

Batty won the long jump with a top mark of 17 feet, nine inches. The Cabrillo High School graduate also finished third in the high jump by clearing 4-7.

Cherry Inay placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.30 seconds, while freshman Amaris Baxter, a Nipomo High School graduate finished fifth in 17.48.

Freshman thrower Destiny Goggins, a Lompoc High School graduate, finished sixth in the discus throw with a mark of 66-8; and seventh in the hammer throw at 69-8.

The women's relay team of Batty, Inay, Baxter and Yadira Castellanos ran the 4x100 relay in 52.21 for a fourth-place finish.

On the men's side, sophomore thrower Ben Wulfestieg came in fifth in the shot put with a top mark of 40-6.

Yovany Pineda led a trio of Bulldogs in the men's 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:27. Eduardo Uribe crossed the line in 17:42, followed by Rogeiio Felix-Ayon in 18:23.

Hancock returns to action on Friday, Feb. 23 at the Western State Conference North Meet hosted by Ventura College.
