Bulldogs Earn Top-Seven Finishes at Oxy Meet

Freshman Haleigh Batty and sophomore Ben Wulfestieg earned top-seven finishes and placed higher than athletes from four-year universities during the Oxy Distance Classic hosted by Occidental College Saturday. The Allan Hancock College men's and women's track and field teams were among the dozens of schools participating in the meet that featured two- and four-year colleges and universities.

Batty beat 18 other jumpers in the women's long jump event, including five from four-year universities. The Cabrillo High School graduate soared to a mark of 18 feet, 4.5 inches. Je'Nia Sears, who competed unattached, won with a mark of 19-5.

Wulfestieg placed seventh out of 21 in the men's shot put with a toss of 41-7. The sophomore placed higher than a handful of athletes from four-year universities.

Cherry Inay placed 16th out of 25 in the women's 100 hurdles with a time of 17.24 seconds.

A handful of Bulldogs competed in the 10K event including: Yovany Pineda (35:25) and Eduardo Uribe (35:24) in the men's race; and Carina Rodriguez (44:45) on the women's side.

The Bulldogs will return to action Friday, March 16 during the Bakersfield Relays.
