Wulfestieg Finishes Seventh at Glendale Meet, Batty Shatters School Record in Long Jump

For the third time this season, Allan Hancock College track and field star Haleigh Batty broke a college record. This time, the freshman broke her own record in the women's long jump by 9.5 inches with a top clearance of 19 feet, 7.25 inches to finish first at the 18th annual Vaquero Classic hosted by Glendale College.

The Cabrillo High School graduate broke her previous record of 18'9.75" that she set last month at the Bakersfield Relays. She set the program's record in the high jump earlier this year by clearing 5'1.75".

Batty was one of a handful of Bulldogs who competed at the invitational.

Men's thrower Ben Wulfestieg placed seventh in the shot put with a top throw of 39'1". Eduardo Uribe crossed the finish line in the men's 5,000-meter run in 18:01. Yovany Pineda ran the 1,500 in 4:27. Freshman Yadira Castellanos completed the women's 400-meter run in 1:08.04.

Hancock will enjoy a week off from competition before heading to the Western State Conference Prelims on April 20 at Santa Monica. The prelims will serve as the final for the high jump, discus throw, shot put, high jump and 10,000-meter run events.  The top-six finishers in those events automatically advance to the Southern California Regional Preliminaries. Athletes will look to qualify for the WSC Finals in the remainder of the track events during the prelims. The finals will take place the following week.
