Lopez and DeSimas Finish in Top Five, Valerio Earns Four Top-Four Finishes for Bulldogs at WSC Coastal Meet

Davina Valerio earned four top-four finishes, while Kevin Lopez and Jacob DeSimas both finished in the top five in the men's javelin throw for the Allan Hancock College track and field team during the Western State Conference Coastal Meet hosted by Cuesta College on Friday. Both the Hancock men's and women's teams finished sixth overall. The West Los Angeles women and Moorpark men finished atop the team standings.

Valerio cleared 16 feet, 2.25 inches for a second-place finish in the women's long jump competition to earn eight points for Hancock. She placed fourth in the women's high jump with a top clearance of 4 feet, 5 inches to earn four points, and scored seven more by tying for second in the pole vault by clearing eight feet, 11.75 inches. Valerio also finished 10th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.12 seconds. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate racked up 19 points for the Bulldogs in field events.

In the men's throwing events, Lopez finished third in the men's javelin throw with a top mark of 122 feet, one inch to earn six points for the Bulldogs. He also finished eighth in the shot put with a top toss of 34-9.5, and 12th in the discus at 93-9.

Desimas placed fifth in the javelin final with a toss of 114-3 to earn two points. He also came in ninth in the discus throw with a mark of 103 feet, one inch, and 10th in the shot put at 32-4.25.

On the track, Yadira Castellanos finished fourth in the women's 400-meter final with a time of 1:10.34 to earn four ore points for the Bulldogs. She also placed eighth in the 200 in 30.25 seconds

Alordra Cardoza ran the 800 in 3:02.62 to finish seventh, while Michele Marceleno came in ninth in the 1500 at 5:38.03 and eighth in the 3K in 12:14.92.

Castellanos, Marceleno, Mireya Martinez, and Valerio earned one point for the Hancock women with a sixth-place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 5:17.57.

Freshman sprinter Letarian Brandon finished 11th in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.45 seconds and 15th in the 200 at 23.58 seconds. He also finished tenth in the long jump with a mark of 19 feet, 5.25 inches.

In the men's middle distances, freshman Jose Cardenas was clocked in 4:25.16 for a 13th-place finish in the 1,500-meter run. Cardenas also placed 20th in the 3,000 with a time of 10:10.28.

The team of Brandon, Edgardo Carballo, Luis Soto, and Nathan Pacheco finished fourth in the men's 4x100 relay with a time of 48.05 seconds. The time earned Hancock four points in the team standings.  

The Hancock men's and women's track teams return to action April 6 at the Glendale Invitational.
