Brandon and Castellano Lead Bulldogs at Glendale's Vaquero Classic

Allan Hancock College freshman Letarian Brandon earned two top-11 finishes, while Yadira Castellano finished in the top-10 for the Bulldogs during the Vaquero Classic Invitational, hosted by Glendale Community College on Saturday.

Brandon had a full slate of action for Hancock. He finished ninth in the 400-meter run with a time of 52.71 seconds. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate placed 11th in the men's long jump with a top mark of 21 feet, 0.5 inch. He also finished 23rd out of nearly 70 runners in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 23.37 seconds.

In the men's throwing events, Kevin Lopez finished 25th in the shot put with a toss of 34 feet, 8.5 inches, while Jacob De Simas finished 28th in the field with a mark of 31-6. In the discus throw, DeSimas came in 21st at 104 feet, while Lopez, an Orcutt Academy product, placed 26th at 97-3

On the women's side, sophomore Yadira Castellano finished 18th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.93 seconds. She also came in tenth in the 400 with a time of 1:09.22. In the 800, freshman Alondra Cardoza, a Lompoc High School graduate, came in 24th, finishing in 2:59.27, while Mireya Martinez came in 25th in the 1,500 with a time of 6:24.

Freshman Michele Marceleno ran the 14th-fastest time in the 5K, crossing the finish in 22:57.73

Next up for the Bulldogs will be the Western State Conference Preliminaries on Friday, April 19, at Santa Barbara City College. The conference finals will be the following week at Moorpark College.
