Chenault Named CCCAA Female Athlete of the Month

Softball pitcher Katie Chenault has been named the Female Athlete of the Month by the California Community College Athletic Association. Chenault is the first Allan Hancock College female athlete to earn the statewide accolade since basketball player Camille Zumbro in January 2011.

In the month of March, the freshman struck out 141 hitters in 83 innings. She allowed just 52 hits and posted an earned run average of 2.00. She threw 11 complete games and earned eight wins. Among the Righetti High School graduate's highlights last month were a perfect game against L.A. Pierce, a game in which she fanned 14 of the 15 hitters she faced. She also racked up 10 or more strikeouts in seven games last month, including a 15-strikeout effort and two 14-strikeout efforts.

Currently, she leads the entire CCCAA in strikeouts and is third in wins. She has already set the program record for most strikeouts in a single season.
