Chenault Named WSC Pitcher of the Year, Five More Earn All-Conference Honors

Katie Chenault earned Pitcher of the Year and five other Allan Hancock College softball players scored All-Conference honors after helping the Bulldogs win their first Western State Conference title since 1998. Under the guidance of head coach Scia Maumausolo, the Bulldogs went 15-3 in WSC play and 26-13 overall.

Freshmen Jessica Rothanzl and Missy Regalado, as well as sophomore outfielder Kristine Ramos were named First Team All-Conference in the Gold Division. Catcher Paige Cosand and outfielder Tawny Nunes, both sophomores, earned Second Team recognition.

Chenault took the conference by storm during her sophomore season. She finished the regular season the state leader in wins (26), strikeouts (355) and strikeouts per game (11.09). The Righetti High School graduate has posted a 1.38 ERA in 224 innings. She has allowed just 134 hits and 39 walks. The freshman broke the Hancock single-season record for most strikeouts. She also threw a perfect game against L.A. Pierce and struck out 22 in a 12-inning game against Santa Barbara. Chenault was already named to the All-State Team this week.

Rothanzl ranks fourth in the state with 53 RBI. The first baseman leads the Bulldogs with a .462 batting average and 15 doubles. The Righetti High School product is tied with Ramos, another former Warriors, for the team lead with 42 runs and 54 hits. Rothanzl is three RBI shy of breaking the school's single-season record for driving in the most runs during a single season. She has also clubbed four home runs and earned All-Southern California Region honors.

Regalado has been a solid force at shortstop and in the middle of the Bulldog lineup. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate has clubbed four home runs and 27 RBI. She has 14 stolen bases and is hitting .316 entering the postseason.

Ramos became the program's all-time leader in career stolen bases this season. After swiping a school record and state-leading 49 bases last season, the sophomore has stolen 42 bases in 45 attempts in 2014. The sophomore is hitting .370 with eight doubles, four triples and 16 RBI. She was also an All-Conference First Team pick in 2013.

Cosand has delivered some clutch hits and offense for the Bulldogs all season, while handling duties behind the plate. The St. Joseph High School product has 32 RBI and one home run, a grand slam. She is hitting .220 overall.

Nunes, a Lompoc High School alumnus, followed a stellar freshman season with a solid sophomore campaign. She is hitting .300 with 30 runs, 20 RBI and 16 stolen bases.

Cuesta's Bre Ojala was named Field Player of the Year, while Cougar skipper Sheila McGuire earned Coach of the Year.
