Hancock Softball to Host Fall Youth Clinics

Hancock Softball to Host Fall Youth Clinics

Months after winning the program's first Western State Conference title, the Allan Hancock College softball program has announced plans to host three fall youth clinics. Girls ages seven to 17 will learn defensive and offensive skills, fundamentals and strategies from Hancock players and coaches.

The clinics run from 9 a.m. to noon on September 27, October 25 and November 22. They will take place at the newly renovated softball complex on the college's Santa Maria campus.

"The program is ready to host camps to expose our local kids to a great learning experience and to improve their skills and knowledge of the game," said Hancock softball head coach Scia Maumausolo. "The kids will be able to meet our players and play in one of the top facilities in the state."

With Central Coast natives at every position last spring, including Santa Maria native Katie Chenault who led the state with 370 strikeouts, the conference champion Bulldogs made the program's first regional playoff appearance in 16 years.

Maumausolo hopes the clinics increase community awareness and introduce young athletes to the Bulldogs' successful program.

"More than 1,000 young girls play softball every year on the Central Coast. We want to invite the kids to learn from our talented players who were in their shoes just a few years ago," she added. "These camps will help young athletes take their games to the next level."

Maumausolo was a three-time Division I All-American who still holds career records at Cal State Northridge for most home runs (46) and RBI (163).

The cost to attend one clinic is $40 per child. Adults should plan to arrive early to the softball field the day of the clinic to pay and register.
