No. 14 Hancock Softball Wins 6-5 Thriller Over No. 15 Sacramento on Rothanzl's Two-Out, Walk-Off Grand Slam

Jessica Rothanzl slugged a two-out, walk-off grand slam to deliver a thrilling 6-5 win for the Allan Hancock College softball team over Sacramento City College at Cuesta College on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 14 in the state, improved to 7-2-1, while Sacramento, which is ranked No. 15 in California, dropped to 6-2.

Hancock trailed 5-1 going into its final at-bat against Sacramento starting pitcher Jostyn Bebout when Judith Salazar led off with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Elysha Cortes. Ashley Ruiz followed with a single and Teanna Silveira was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Morgan Welch entered the game to replace Bebout. Kayla Stevens grounded into a fielder's choice to force out Cortes at the plate and reload the bases. Michaela Valencia followed with a grounder to second to drive in Ruiz and advance the other runners. Megan Love drew a two-out walk to reload the bases for Rothanzl. The sophomore, who committed to Cal State Northridge, slugged her second long ball of the season to hand the Bulldogs their fifth straight win.

Hancock scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning when Missy Regalado doubled and scored on a double from Silveira. Regalado led the Bulldogs with two hits. Sacramento responded with five runs in the third against All-State pitcher Katie Chenault.

Chenault, who also committed to Cal State Northridge, earned the win. The sophomore struck out 10 and scattered six hits and four earned runs. She walked three.

Both teams tallied six hits and one error.

Hancock returns to action on Friday, Feb. 27, at LA Valley College with first pitch at 2 p.m.
