Chenault Fans 12, Offense Delivers in No. 10 Hancock's 8-0 Win at LA Valley

Katie Chenault struck out 12, Megan Love delivered a two-run single and Teanna Silveira doubled and tripled during the Allan Hancock College softball team's 8-0 five-inning win at Los Angeles Valley College on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs won their sixth straight to improve to 8-2-1. Hancock is ranked No. 10 in the latest Southern California Regional Coaches Poll. LA Valley dropped to 5-4 and saw its two-game winning streak snapped.

Hancock struck first in the top of the first when Michaela Valencia led off with a single. She scored on an errant throw by the LAV pitcher on a ball off the bat of Megan Love to give Hancock the early 1-0 advantage. 

The Bulldogs scored twice in the third when they rallied with two outs and nobody on base. Jessica Rothanzl drew a two-out walk and Chenault was hit by a pitch. Missy Regalado delivered a RBI-single to left-center to plate Rothanzl. Chenault scored on a double down the left field line off the bat of freshman center fielder Judith Salazar. Hancock added three more in the fifth after Silveira led off with a double and moved to third on a bunt-hit from Kayla Stevens. Love delivered a two-run single to right-center to make it 5-0 Hancock. Love later stole home to make it 6-0 and cap a three-run rally.

The Bulldogs scored two more in the fifth to win by an eight-run rule. Ashley Ruiz  led off with a  single and scored on a triple to left by Silveira. The freshman catcher scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Valencia.

Regalado and Silveira led the Bulldogs with two hits apiece. Hancock collected nine hits overall.

Chenault dominated in the circle and allowed singles in the first and fourth innings.  The sophomore walked one batter and fanned 12. She struck out the side in the first, second and fourth innings. 

Hancock plays at No. 9 Citrus College at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Citrus is off to a 6-2 start.
