No. 12 Hancock Doubles Up Glendale 6-3 to Close 4-0 at Ventura Tournament

Freshman catcher Teanna Silveira drove in two runs and threw out two baserunners to help the Allan Hancock College softball team defeat Glendale 6-3 on Sunday to finish the Ventura Tournament a perfect 4-0. The Bulldogs extended their winning streak to 22 games and improved to 24-2-1 overall. Hancock is ranked No. 12 in the latest State Poll and sixth in the Southern California Regional poll.

The Bulldogs scored once in the first when Missy Regalado laced a two-out double to center to score Megan Love. Hancock doubled its lead in the second when Silveira hit a sacrifice fly to center field to allow Judith Salazar to tag and score from third. Salazar, a freshman center fielder, led off the inning with a single, stole second base and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Ruiz.

Hancock added two more in the third when Jessica Rothanzl singled home Love, who had singled and stole second base. Rothanzl eventually scored on a wild pitch to give Hancock a 4-0 lead.

The Bulldogs built a 6-0 lead in the fourth when Ruiz tripled to the right center field gap to score Gianna Abatti, who had walked. Silveira drove in Ruiz with a double to left center field.

Glendale scored once in the fifth and twice in the sixth. Katie Chenault went the first five innings and returned in the sixth to record the final two outs. Trista Berryman faced the first four batters in the sixth and was charged with two runs, though both were unearned. Berryman walked two. Chenault finished with eight strikeouts and scattered four hits and allowed one unearned run.
