No. 4 Bulldogs Rout Cuesta 11-0, Extend Winning Streak to 28

Missy Regalado and Katie Chenault drove in three runs apiece, while Chenault struck out nine as the Allan Hancock College softball team won 11-0 in five innings at Cuesta College on Thursday afternoon. Hancock, which is ranked fourth in the state and third in Southern California, extended its winning streak to 28 games and improved to 13-0 in Western State Conference play and 30-2-1 overall. Cuesta fell to 8-5 in conference and 12-16 for the season.

The Western State Conference champions reached the 30-win mark for the first time since 1999.

The Bulldogs scored single runs in the first three innings. Regalado singled home Michaela Valencia, who had walked and stole second, to lead off the game. Ashley Ruiz scored on a passed ball in the second, and sophomore Gianna Abatti ripped a RBI-double in the third. The Bulldogs doubled their 3-0 advantage with three runs in the fourth. Jessica Rothanzl singled home Valencia, Regalado drove in Megan Love on a grounder to second base, and Chenault singled to left allowing Rothanzl to score from third. 

Hancock put the game out of reach with a five-run fifth inning. Freshman catcher Monique Hoobery doubled home two runs, Regalado drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Chenault delivered a two-run single to cap the scoring on the day.

Chenault allowed one single in the fourth inning and walked two hitters. She finished with a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts. The Righetti High School graduate increased her state-leading strikeout total to 342 and picked up her 29th win of the season. 

Hancock collected 10 hits and took advantage of six Cuesta errors. Chenault went 2 for 2 with 3 RBI and two walks. Regalado went 1 for 4 with 3 RBI, while Hoobery was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI. Ruiz, Valencia and Love scored two runs apiece. The Bulldogs also stole five bases.

Hancock returns to action at home on Saturday, April 18, at 1 p.m. when LA Valley comes to town.
