Rothanzl Sets Single-Season RBI Record, No. 4 Bulldogs Blank Oxnard 11-0 for 30th Straight Win

Jessica Rothanzl broke the program's single-season record for most RBI as the Allan Hancock College softball team won its 30th straight game with an 11-0 win in five innings at Oxnard to open a doubleheader. The Bulldogs improved to 32-2-1 overall and a perfect 14-0 in Western State Conference action. The host Condors dropped to 4-10 in conference and 6-24 overall.

The Bulldogs, who are fourth ranked team in California, scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Megan Love singled and stole second and scored on a single from Rothanzl. The sophomore first baseman stole second base and scored on a double to center field off the bat of shortstop Missy Regalado. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate later scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Judith Salazar to give Hancock an early 3-0 lead.

The Bulldogs added five in the second inning when catcher Teanna Silveira led off with a single and moved to third on a double down the left field line from Michaela Valencia. After Rothanzl walked to load the bases with one out, Regalado sent a ball down the left field line for a two-run double to make it 5-0 Bulldogs. Katie Chenault followed with sacrifice fly to left to allow Rothanzl to tag and score from third. After Salazar reached on an error, Gianna Abatti doubled to center field to plate Regalado and Salazar to put Hancock ahead 8-0.

Love aded a RBI-single in the fourth and Rothanzl hit a two-run single in the fifth to cap the Hancock scoring.

The Bulldogs finished with 12 hits, two apiece from Love, Rothanzl, Regalado, Abatti and Silveira. Rothanzl and Regalado had 3 RBI each, while Abatti had two.

Since returning from an injury a few weeks ago that kept her out 20 games, Abatti, a Nipomo High School graduate, extended her streak to six straight games with at least one hit and RBI.

Rothanzl's three RBI gave her 56, which broke the three-year old single-season record of 55 set by current assistant coach Caitlin Voss. The future Cal State Northridge athlete also added to her record for most career RBI of 109.

Chenault threw four perfect innings in the circle for the Bulldogs before she allowed one single in the bottom of the fifth. She struck out nine and picked up win number 30 this season, which leads the state. The sophomore also leads the state with 362 strikeouts this season, eight off the school record she set last season of 370.
