Softball to Play Four Games at Mt. San Jacinto Tournament

Ranked No. 10 in the SoCal Preseason Poll, the Allan Hancock softball team will take its 3-2 record on the road this week for four games over two games at Mt. San Jacinto College on Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13.

The Bulldogs are coming off a doubleheader split with Mt. San Jacinto. Freshman shortstop Larrissa Ostrander delivered the key two-run single in a three-run second inning to help the Bulldogs win 3-1 in the opener. She had three hits and stole one bases. Freshman second baseman Maggie Dasis (Righetti HS) drew three walks and stole two bases. Ashley Ruiz (Nipomo HS) had one hit, one stolen bases and scored once. Trista Berryman (Lompoc HS) had one hit.  Shannon Peterson earned the win with a complete game. She allowed three hits and an unearned run. The freshman walked two and struck out two.

Hancock lost 2-1 in the second game. Peterson allowed just two runs, six hits and struck out six in seven innings. Ruiz had two hits in the loss. Emily Gantt (St. Joseph HS) had a RBI-single in the sixth inning to drive in Dasis, who had walked and stole second earlier in the inning.

Through five games, Ostrander leads the team with a .625 batting average and 10 hits in 16 at-bats with eight stolen bases. Gantt is seven for 12 and hitting .583 with seven RBI.

During the tournament hosted by Mt. San Jacinto, the Bulldogs will play College of the Desert at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12 before taking on host Mt. Jacinto at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs will then play Napa at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Grossmont at noon. Mt. San Jacinto is 4-2, Grossmont is 5-1, Napa is 0-3 and Desert is 0-6.
