Diaz Throws Three-Hit Shutout, Hancock Softball Stays Perfect With 2-0 Win at LA Mission

Hannah Diaz threw a complete-game shutout as the Allan Hancock College softball team blanked L.A. Mission 2-0 Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved to 4-0, while LA Mission fell to 3-4.

Diaz scattered three hits, three walks and struck out three while throwing her second complete game of the season to improve to 2-0. The sophomore retired the first six batters she faced before allowing a walk and a single in the third.

Hancock pushed a run across the plate in the second when Bailey Killough led of the frame with a double and scored on a RBI-single off the bat of Zaiden Bakke.

The Bulldogs added to their lead in the fifth when Sierra Martinez led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Mallory Townsend followed with a RBI-double to make it a 2-0 game.

Hancock outhit Mission seven to three. Nikole Cody went 2-for-2, while Townsend, Nakaila Fuggs, Killough, Bakke and Martinez had one hit apiece. Centerfielder Crystal Gonzalez drew four walks for Hancock.

Hancock wraps its three-day, three-game road trip at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Glendale. The Bulldogs return home to host LA Valley on Thursday, Feb. 8, at 2:30 p.m.
