Hancock Softball Routs L.A. Valley 10-1 to Improve to 6-0

Zaiden Bakke collected three hits and 3 RBI and Andrea Ortega added two hits and drove in two runs to help the Allan Hancock College softball team rout L.A. Valley 10-1 in five innings on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved to 6-0, while the Monarchs fell to 0-1. The Bulldogs are off to their best start in at least a decade and enjoying their longest winning streak since 2015.

Hancock got on the board in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a pair of errors. Nakaila Fuggs, who led off with a walk and stole second, scored on an errant throw by the L.A. Valley catcher. With two outs, Bakke singled to drive in Crystal Gonzalez and was able to score on the play after an error by the center fielder. After Cody was hit by a pitch and Alyssa Gonzalez walked to extend the inning. Ortega delivered an RBI single to cap the four-run inning.

Hancock added three more in the second. Bakke singled by the second baseman to drive in Mallory Townsend. Alyssa Gonzalez and Ortega added run-scoring singles to extend Hancock's lead to 7-0 after two.

The Bulldogs scored three more in the third as Crystal Gonzalez singled in a run, Townsend ripped a RBI-double and Bakke delivered her third run-scoring hit of the day.

Sophomore pitcher Hannah Diaz did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. Diaz went the distance to improve to 3-0 after allowing just three hits, one run and one walk. She struck out four along the way.

Hancock finished with nine hits and drew eight walks. Bakke went 3-for-3 2ith 3 RBI and two runs. Ortega went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Fuggs walked three times and scored twice. Crystal Gonzalez and Cody each scored twice in the game.

The Bulldogs host Riverside on Saturday at 1 p.m.
