Killough Leads Offensive Outburst, Hancock Softball Routs Mt. San Jacinto 16-4 and 15-7 to Sweep Doubleheader

Bailey Killough collected seven hits, 9 RBI and threw a complete game in the circle, while Crystal Gonzalez drove in six runs as the Allan Hancock College softball team swept a doubleheader from Mt. San Jacinto on Saturday 16-4 and 15-7. After taking both non-conference games in five innings, Hancock improved to 10-3-1 and Mt. San Jacinto fell to 6-7.

Killough got the Bulldogs on the board in the opening game with a two-run double in the bottom of the first. Mt. San Jacinto answered with three runs against Killough in the second in a rally fueled by a Bulldog error. Hancock tied it in the bottom half on a run-scoring grounder from Nakaila Fuggs. Hancock took the lead for good in the bottom of the third with six runs. Alyssa and Crystal Gonzalez drew walks with the bases loaded to force in runs, and Gennae Abatti and Killough delivered two-run singles to push Hancock ahead 9-3. Hancock added seven more in the fourth as Alyssa Gonzalez singled to drive in a run, Crystal Gonzalez doubled to drive in three more, Mallory Townsend followed with a RBI-double, and Killough capped the rally with a two-run home run, her second of the season.

Killough went 3-for-3 with a career-high six RBI in the opener. She also earned the win in the circle with a complete game. She scattered four hits and one walk, allowing four runs, only one of which was earned. Crystal Gonzalez went 2-for-2 with 4 RBI, while Abatti and Alyssa Gonzalez drove in two runs apiece in the first game.

In game two, Killough started the scoring again with a RBI-single in the first. Mackenzie Baird delivered a two-run double two batters later to give Hancock a 3-0 after one. Mt. San Jacinto scored once in the second, but Hancock answered with five more in the second as Fuggs drove in one with a triple, Killough doubled in another, and Baird drove in two more with a two-bagger of her own. Hancock scored seven times in the fourth behind a two-run double from Nikole Cody, three-run triple from Townsend, RBI-single by Killough and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Crystal Gonzalez to cap the scoring and make it a 15-2 game after four.

Hannah Diaz threw a complete game to earn the win in game two. The sophomore scattered 11 hits and seven runs, six of them earned, over five innings for the Bulldogs.

Offensively in the second game, Killough went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs.Baird and Townsend each had two hits and 3 RBI. Crystal Gonzalez and Cody also drove in two runs apiece in the second game.

The Bulldogs resume Western State Conference play Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Santa Barbara City College. Hancock plays its next three games, all conference contests, on the road.
