Townsend, Killough and Bakke Collect 3 RBI Each, Hancock Softball Wins 12-4 at LA Valley

Sophomore Bailey Killough and freshmen Zaiden Bakke and Mallory Townsend drove in three runs apiece to lead the Allan Hancock College softball team to a 12-4 win at L.A. Valley in a non-conference game on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved to 19-13-1 overall, while the Monarchs dropped to 22-13.

Valley's Sabrina Steward hit a solo home run in the first inning against Hancock starting pitcher Hannah Diaz to give the Monarchs an early 1-0 lead. Hancock's bats came to life in the third inning. Mackenzie Baird and Nakaila Fuggs singled and moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Diaz. After Crystal Gonzalez walked to load the bases, Sabrina Ornelas singled in a run to tie it at 1-1. Townsend followed with a two-run double to plate Fuggs and Gonzalez and give Hancock a 3-1 lead.

Valley responded with a two-run blast by Rebecca Gomez to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the third. The Bulldogs took control of the game by sending 10 hitters to plate and scored seven times in the fourth inning. Fuggs hit a two-run triple, Townsend singled in a run, Killough hit a sacrifice fly and Bakke slugged a three-run home run, her first collegiate long ball to give Hancock a 10-3 lead.

Valley got a run back in the fifth with its third home run, a solo blast off the bat of Pam Garcia to cut the deficit to 10-4. Hancock put the game out of reach in the sixth as Killough clubbed her fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot to give Hancock an eight-run lead at 12-4.

Townsend and Bakke both went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI on the day to lead Hancock's 13-hit attack. Killough, Baird and Fuggs had two hits apiece. Fuggs, Baird, Ornelas and Gonzalez each scored two runs.

Diaz earned the win by throwing a complete game. The sophomore scattered seven hits, three of them home runs, and four runs. She walked one and struck out five.

Hancock finishes the regular season on Tuesday, April 24, when the Bulldogs host a doubleheader against Oxnard. Game one is set for 1 p.m.
