Softball's Bailey Killough Named WSC Player of the Year, Six More Bulldogs Earn All-Conference Honors

After leading the conference in RBI and ranking second in home runs and third in wins, Allan Hancock College softball's Bailey Killough has been named the Western State Conference – North Division's Player of the Year. The sophomore was one of seven Bulldogs to receive all-conference honors. The Bulldogs finished the regular season 11-3 in conference for a third-place finish in the standings and 21-13-1 overall. They reached the 20-win mark for the fifth time in the last six seasons under Head Coach Scia Maumausolo.

Freshmen Zaiden Bakke, Crystal Gonzalez and Mallory Townsend were named to the All-Western State Conference First Team. Sophomores Hannah Diaz and Nikole Cody earned spots on the All-Conference Second Team, while freshman catcher Alyssa Gonzalez received honorable mention.

Killough, the 2017 WSC Pitcher of the Year, shined at the plate and in the circle this season. The sophomore became the first Bulldog to win the conference's Player of the Year award since Jessica Rothanzl won the honor in 2015. Killough ranked sixth in the conference this season with a .430 batting average and second with eight home runs. She ranked seventh in the state and led the conference with 52 RBI. The Arroyo Grande High School graduate went 11-5 in the circle with 86 strikeouts and a 2.70 ERA over 103 2/3 innings. Over two seasons, Killough finished her career at the plate with a .384 batting average, 10 home runs and 83 RBI. In the circle, she went 28-13 with 182 strikeouts and 2.12 ERA over 264 innings. She saved the best for last and went 5-for-5, hit for the cycle, drove in 10 runs and threw a complete game with nine strikeouts in the team's final game, a 25-2 win in five innings against Oxnard on Tuesday.

Bakke (pictured below on left) ranked second on the team with a .427 batting average. The first baseman finished with six doubles, one home run and 25 RBI. She finished the regular season 12-for-17 with seven RBI over her last five games. Townsend (pictured below in center) led the team with 38 runs scored and seven triples. The Cabrillo High School graduate added 29 RBI, 16 stolen bases and a .324 batting average. Crystal Gonzalez (pictured below on right) finished the season hitting .379 with three home runs, 35 RBI and led the team with 27 walks, .543 on-base percentage and 10 doubles. The Righetti High School graduate drove in six runs in a single-game with a grand slam and triple during Hancock's 31-1 win over Santa Monica.

   

This season, Diaz (pictured below on left) pitched in 20 games for the Bulldogs, 17 of them starts. The sophomore went 7-7 with 15 complete games. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate struck out 60 and posted a 4.01 ERA over 110 innings pitched. Cody (pictured below on right) earned a spot on the second team after hitting .266 with 21 runs, six doubles, one home run and 14 RBI.

 

Alyssa Gonzalez (pictured, below) received honorable mention after hitting .315 with six doubles, two triples and 17 RBI.

The Bulldogs will soon learn if they earned an at-large berth into the postseason. The Southern California Regional brackets will be released on Saturday.
