Calderon Leads Red-Hot Hancock To 66-40 Win Over Saddleback At Lady Bulldog Classic

Celina Calderon scored a career-high 24 points to lead a trio of Bulldogs in double figures as the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team routed Saddleback 66-40 during day two of the Lady Bulldog Classic on Friday. The Bulldogs rebounded from Thursday's loss to improve to 5-6 overall. Hancock advanced to play Lassen at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the consolation championship. Lassen eliminated Barstow earlier in the day 63-54.

Calderon made eight of her 14 shots from the floor, including four of seven from three-point range. She grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, collected four assists and two steals. The sophomore also hit all four of her free throws.

Hancock led 15-12 about six minutes in when the Bulldogs closed out the first half on a 23-7 run.  Calderon scored eight points in the final 14 minutes of the opening half, including a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Hancock a 38-19 lead at intermission. The Lompoc High School graduate scored 14 points in the first half.

Ali Rodriguez finished with 14 points. The sophomore hit three three-point buckets in the first 2:30 of the game for the Bulldogs. The Pioneer Valley high School graduate finished with three assists and made four of her five shots, including all three of her shots from long distance.

Nicole De La Guerra finished with 12 points, including eight in the second half. She also grabbed six rebounds, and compiled four steals and three assists.  After Saddleback climbed to within 17 at 43-26, the Pioneer Valley High School graduate scored eight points during a stretch that saw Hancock extend its lead to 61-35. 

Tashara Pruett added seven rebounds, three assists and four points. Freshman Ashley Daher contributed 13 minutes off the bench to finish with five points and three boards. Jazmine Cooks added three points and four rebounds.

Hancock held Saddleback to 25 percent shooting as the Gauchos hit 14 of their 56 shots from the field and three of 18 from three-point territory. Hancock shot 54 percent on the night after hitting 20 of 37 shots. The Bulldogs also hit seven of their 10 three-point attempts. Hancock made 19 of its 26 free throws for a 73 percent clip.

Hancock held a 31-30 rebounding edge despite allowing 19 offensive rebounds to Saddleback.  Danielle Munson led the Gauchos with 11 points. Saddleback dropped to 5-6 overall.
