De La Guerra and Torres Tie Career-Highs, Hancock Crushes Gavilan 91-48 to Win Third Place at Monterey Tournament

Nicole De La Guerra tied a career-high with 22 points to lead the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team to a 91-48 rout over Gavilan College and a third place finish at the Monterey Peninsula College Tournament on Saturday.

The Bulldogs improved to 7-8 overall, while Gavilan dropped to 4-8.

De La Guerra, a sophomore guard, scored 13 points in the first half, while freshman Marissa Torres added nine in the first 20 minutes. Hancock led 47-26 at intermission.

De La Guerra earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after she scored 22 points for the second straight game. She averaged 20 points in the team's three tournament games. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate hit 10 of her 11 shots, including her only attempt from three-point range.

Torres, a Templeton High School graduate, and Celina Calderon added 17 points. Torres tied her career-high by making six of eight shots from the floor and four of five from the free throw line. She added four assists, three rebounds and four steals.

Calderon, a Lompoc High School graduate, led the team with seven assists, eight rebounds, including four offensive boards, and four steals. She was six for eight from the field, including a perfect three-for-three from long range.

Ali Rodriguez made six of eight from the floor to finish with 16 points, four assists and three steals. Ashley Daher scored a career-best eight points, while Tashara Pruett added six.

The team's 91 points marked the program's highest scoring output since an 88-68 win over Butte College on December 17, 2011.

The Bulldogs shot 67 percent from the floor by hitting 38 of 57, including seven of nine from three-point range. Hancock made eight of 12 from the charity stripe for a 67 percent clip. Eleven of their 29 rebounds were on the offensive-side of the glass. They also dished out 18 assists and recorded 13 steals, while turning the ball over just nine times.

Hancock takes a break from game action until the New Year. The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, Jan. 2, at Hartnell College at 3p.m.
