Rodriguez, Torres Lead Hancock Women to 50-44 Win at Oxnard

Ali Rodriguez and Marissa Torres combined to score 30 points to lead the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team to a 50-44 win at Oxnard on Wednesday night. Hancock improved to 2-4 in Western State Conference play and 10-12 overall. Oxnard dropped to 1-5 in league and 1-15 for the season.

The first half was an offensive struggle for both teams. Hancock made just four of its 26 shots in the first 20 minutes for a 15 percent mark. The Bulldogs made nine of 20 in the second half, including five of 11 from three-point range. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 30 percent from the floor (14 for 46) and made seven of 22 from three-point range for a 32 percent clip. Hancock hit on 58 percent of its free throws or 15 of 26.

Rodriguez made five of her 13 shots from the field, including three of 10 from three-point range. The sophomore guard finished with 17 points, a team-high seven rebounds and four assists. Torres, a freshman and Templeton High School graduate, hit four of her seven shots, including three of her four three-point shots. She added four rebounds and four assists.

Celina Calderon added seven points before she fouled out of the game. Nicole De La Guerra added eight points, five rebounds and three steals. Michaila Miller chipped in four points and six rebounds.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, Jan. 31, on the road at Moorpark, at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs lost 58-52 to Moorpark in their conference opener.
