Rodriguez Nets All-Conference First Team Honors, Calderon Earns Honorable Mention

Sophomore guards Ali Rodriguez and Celina Calderon, the two leading scorers on the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team, scored All-Conference honors on Sunday.

Rodriguez, a Pioneer Valley High School graduate, was named to the All-Western State Conference-North Division First Team. The sophomore was the Bulldogs' leading scorer for the second year in a row. She averaged 14.7 points per game, which ranked third among conference players. Rodriguez shot 40 percent from the field and 33.5 percent from three-point range. She averaged a team-leading four assists per game and scored 10 or more points in 22 of the Bulldogs' 28 games. Last season, she averaged 16.5 points per contest.

Calderon earned honorable mention after averaging 12.3 points per game, which ranked seventh in the conference. She shot 44.8 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point range. She led the team with a free throw percentage of 76.2 percent. The Lompoc High School graduate averaged 4.4 rebounds, three assists and a team-leading 1.8 steals per game. She scored a career-high 27 points against conference champion and defending state champion Ventura this season.

Calderon scored 21 points and Rodriguez added 12 in Hancock's season-ending 76-58 win over Oxnard on Saturday. The Bulldogs finished the season 12-16 overall and 4-8 in conference under second-year head coach Cary Nerelli. It marked the first time in eight years the Bulldogs won 10 or more games in back-to-back seasons.
