Hancock Women Fall 80-69 to SBCC Despite 26 from Ramirez

Despite 27 points from Syenna Ramirez and 14 points and 10 rebounds from Kelly McClain, the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team dropped an 80-69 conference game at Santa Barbara City College on Saturday evening. After losing both games against the Vaqueros this season, Hancock dropped to 4-3 in Western State Conference play and 15-7 overall. SBCC improved to 4-3 in league and 13-10 on the season.

Destinee King and Kesler Johnson scored 18 points apiece for the Vaqueros. Nalei'a Brackett added 17 for SBCC. 

Santa Barbara led Hancock 20-12 after the first quarter behind six points from Destinee King. The Bulldogs outscored SBCC 27-20 in the second quarter and trailed 40-39 at halftime. Ramirez, a St. Joseph High School graduate, scored nine in the first quarter for the Bulldogs and 11 more in the second to finish with 20 points in the first half.

Janessa Hernandez added seven points for the Bulldogs, while Michaila Miller scored eight and Destinee Garcia poured in six points.

Hancock will look to get back on track Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Oxnard. The Bulldogs and Vaqueros are both 4-3 in conference and one game behind second place 5-2 Oxnard in the WSC standings.
