Hancock Women's Basketball Battle Oxnard and Moorpark in Key Conference Showdowns this week

The Hancock women's basketball team will look to get back on track this week with two important Western State Conference games. The Bulldogs are 15-7 overall and 4-3 in league. Hancock is tied for third with Santa Barbara, one game behind Oxnard (5-2, 12-7) and one game ahead of Moorpark (3-4, 10-11). The Bulldogs will play at Oxnard on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 5 p.m. before hosting Moorpark on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m.

The Bulldogs lost last week 80-69 at Santa Barbara City College despite 26 points from Syenna Ramirez (St. Joseph HS) and 14 points from freshman forward Kelly McClain.

Last month, Hancock defeated Oxnard in Santa Maria 64-53 behind 14 points and 12 assists from Ramirez. Sophomore guard Marissa Torres (Templeton HS) sank three key three-pointers to finish with 13 points and McClain added 12 points and nine rebounds.  The Bulldogs will also go for a season sweep against Moorpark. The Bulldogs won 48-43 at Moorpark last month. Michaila Miller (Santa Barbara HS) led the Bulldogs down the stretch and finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Destinee Garcia recorded a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Ramirez added 11 points and six assists in Hancock's first victory at Moorpark in nine years. 

Ramirez ranks 23rd in California at 17.3 points per game.

Juliette Marquez is Oxnard's top scorer at 16.1 points per game. Sydney Perry leads Moorpark with 12.8 points per game.
