Despite 17 from Ramirez, Hancock Women Drops Conference Game to Moorpark

Despite 17 points Syenna Ramirez, the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team dropped a key Western State Conference game with Moorpark College 60-42 on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs dropped to 4-5 in conference and 15-9 overall. The Raiders improved to 4-5 in league and 11-12 overall.

Hancock led 8-6 after the first quarter, but Moorpark outscored Hancock 25-10 in the second quarter to carry a 31-18 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs responded with a strong third quarter cut the deficit to 39-36 on a layup by Kelly McClain with 1:18 to go in the quarter. However, Moorpark answered with a 14-0 run over the next six minutes to take control 53-36.

Moorpark held a 34 to 23 edge on rebounds, including 18 offensive rebounds that led to 16 second-chance points. Moorpark also held the edge on points off turnovers at 19 to eight.

Overall, Hancock shot 38 percent (17 for 45) and sank just one of 18 three-point shots. Moorpark finished the game at 38 percent from the field (23 for 60) and 14 for 22 from free-throw line (64 percent.)

Ramirez scored a game-high 17 points on eight for 17 shooting. She made one of three shots from the foul line. The freshman had two rebounds and two steals. Michaila Miller had four points and six rebounds, while Ashley Daher had four points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Sydney Perry led the Raiders with 16 points. Emma Johnson had 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Nina Winsick had 15 points. Dagmar Ramirez had nine points, eight rebounds and six steals.

Hancock returns to action on Wednesday, February 10 at 5 p.m. when first place Ventura College comes to Hancock. It will be the final home game of the season for the Bulldogs, including the team's three sophomores: Marissa Torres, Miller and Daher.
