Rosa and Ramirez Power Hancock Women to Sixth Straight Win, 65-53 over Modesto to Open Monterey Classic

  Freshman Grace Rosa and sophomore guard Syenna Ramirez scored 19 points each to lead the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team to its sixth straight win, a 65-53 victory over Modesto to open a tournament hosted by Monterey Peninsula College on Thursday. The Bulldogs improved to 8-2, and Modesto fell to 5-3.  

Ramirez scored 12 of her season-high 19 points in the first half to help Hancock carry a 37-26 lead into halftime. The St. Joseph High School graduate went 7-for-15 overall from the field, and hit 2-of-6 from 3-point range. The sophomore added six rebounds, eight assists and one steal for the Bulldogs.

Rosa erupted for 11 points in the second half for the Bulldogs to tie a career high with 19 points. The Paso Robles High School graduate also pulled down 13 rebounds to tie a career high, including nine on the offensive end. Rosa made seven of her 14 shots and all five of her free throws. It marked Rosa's third double-double of the season.

Sophomore Destinee Garcia added 12 points on 6-for-15 shooting. She added seven rebounds and three assists. Taylor Lee-Hammer, a freshman guard, added seven points, four rebounds and two steals.

Overall, Hancock shot 43 percent by hitting 26-of-60 shots. The Bulldogs went 3-for-11 from 3-point territory, and sank 10 of 12 free throws.

Hancock advanced to the championships semifinals. The Bulldogs will face either Monterey or Lassen at 7 p.m. on Friday. Monterey and Lassen were set to face off Thursday at 5 p.m. in a first round game.
