Lady Bulldogs Head to Moorpark Wednesday for Conference Game

The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team will play two Western State Conference games this week starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, at Moorpark. The Bulldogs will return home to host Central Coast rival Santa Barbara at 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 21.

Hancock is coming off a near-upset of 26-time defending conference champion Ventura. The Bulldogs led by as many as seven points in the third quarter before falling at home to the Pirates 73-60. Four Bulldogs scored 11 or more points led by freshman guard Taylor Lee-Hammer (Pagosa Springs HS), who had 15 points., eight rebounds, and six assists. Freshman guard Karly Beyers (Pioneer Valley HS) hit four 3-point buckets to finish with 14 points to go with six boards and four assists. Grace Rosa (Paso Robles HS) added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Syenna Ramirez (St. Joseph HS) finished with 11 points. Beyers, Lee-Hammer, and Ramirez combined to hit 10 3-point buckets. 

Seventeen games into the season, Rosa is Hancock's leading scorer at 11.8 points to go with 7.4 rebounds per game. Lee-Hammer averages 11.7 points per game and shoots 46 percent from 3-point range. Ramirez averages 9.1 points, 4.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds. Destinee Garcia (Golden West HS) and Beyers average about 9 points per game. Garcia, a sophomore, also averages 6.3 rebounds.

Moorpark enters the game 13-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Raiders opened conference play with a 61-58 win at Oxnard. Moorpark has three players averaging 11 points or more. Sophomore guard Vanessa Desimone is shooting 33 percent from 3-point territory and averaging 13.7 points and 2.6 three-point buckets per game. Sophomore center Emma Johnson averages 12.1 points and 6.3 rebounds, while guard Elisa Munoz-Albanez averages 11.6 points per game. The two teams split their two meetings last season.

Santa Barbara will start the week 11-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Vaqueros opened league with an 80-71 win at Cuesta for their fourth straight victory. Sophomore Destinee King led the way with a career-high 31 points and 17 rebounds. Alyssa Cosio added 17 points and six rebounds. King is averaging 18.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore forward Stella Dulay averages 11.5 points. Jada Clark, a freshman center, averages about 7 points and 7 rebounds per game. The Bulldogs have lost their last five meetings with the Vaqueros. Hancock will go for its first win over SBCC since January 2014.
