Ramirez and Rosa Lead Hancock Women to 53-44 Conference Win at Cuesta

Sophomore Syenna Ramirez scored 15 points, and Grace Rosa recorded a double-double to lead the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team to a 53-44 win at Cuesta College on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs won their second straight conference game to even their Western State Conference record at 2-2 and improve to 13-7 overall. Cuesta fell to 1-3 in league and 12-10 on the year.

 

Hancock stormed out to a 20-7 lead after the first quarter behind eight points from freshman guard Taylor Lee-Hammer and six from Ramirez. Both guards hit two 3-point buckets in the first 10 minutes of the game. Hancock outscored Cuesta 19-9 in the second quarter to carry at 39-16 lead into halftime. Freshman guard Karly Beyers scored all seven of her points in the second quarter.

 

Cuesta outscored Hancock 28-14 in the second half, but the Bulldogs held on for its second win of the year against the Cougars. Hancock has won its last four meetings with the Cougars.

 

Ramirez finished 6-for-8 from the floor, including a 3-for-4 effort from 3-point range. The St. Joseph High School graduate added five assists.

 

Rosa was 4-for-11 from the field, and 2-for-4 from the free-throw line. The freshman had 10 rebounds, three on the offensive end to secure her fourth double-double of the season.

 

Sophomore Destinee Garcia was 4-for-11 overall to finish with eight points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Lee-Hammer added eight points, all in the first quarter, five rebounds, and four assists. Beyers ended with seven points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

 

The Bulldogs will return home to host Oxnard, at 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, inside Joe White Memorial Gymnasium.
