Hancock Women Drop Season Opener 63-61 at LA Southwest Despite 17 from Beyers

Sophomores Karly Beyers and Taylor Lee-Hammer combined to score 33 points, but the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team dropped its season opener 63-61 at L.A. Southwest on Friday evening. The Bulldogs, who start the season 0-1, will continue their season-opening three-game road trip next Friday, Nov. 10 at L.A. Harbor.

The Bulldogs made 24 of their 46 shots overall from the floor or 53 percent. However, the key statistics were turnovers and free-throw percentage. Hancock committed 33 turnovers and made 9-of-18 from the free-throw line.

Beyers led the Bulldogs with 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the floor. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate went 2-for-4 from 3-point range and made one of two free throws. Beyers added five rebouds and four assists.

Lee-Hammer, the returning all-conference guard, finished with 16 points on 6-for-13 shooting. She hit two of her four shots from 3-point range and went 2-for-3 from the line. Lee-Hammer finished with seven rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Sophomore Grace Rosa finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, four came on the offensive glass. The Paso Robles High School graduate went 6-for-14 from the field and 2-for-3 from the line.

Hannah Walls contributed six points, six rebounds and two blocked shots in her first collegiate start. Anamarie Fruge chipped in five points and six rebounds.
