Lady Bulldogs Fall to Lassen in First Round of Monterey Classic

Despite 20 points from sophomore Grace Rosa, the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team lost 65-46 to Lassen in the first round of the Monterey Classic. The Bulldogs dropped their second in a row to tall to 6-5 on the year. Lassen improved to 10-5.

The Bulldogs fell behind early and could never catch up to the Cougars. Lassen built a 26-7 lead after the first quarter and carried a 41-20 lead into halftime.

Rosa made nine of her 13 shots from the field and hit both of her free throws. The Paso Robles High School graduate scored 20 points for the second straight game and the fourth time in the last five games. The sophomore added eight rebounds and two blocked shots.

Taylor Lee-Hammer went 4-for-11 overall and 2-for-4 from 3-point range to finish with 11 points. The sophomore guard added three rebounds and four assists. Lee-Hammer has reached double digits in 10 of Hancock's 11 games this season.

Karly Beyers and Calley Pruett contributed five points apiece for Hancock.

The Bulldogs shot 37 percent from the field on the night by hitting 19 of their 51 shots overall. Hancock went 3-for-12 from 3-point range and hit 5-of-9 from the free-throw line. Hancock committed 26 turnovers in the loss.

The Bulldogs will face Las Positas at 3 p.m. on Friday. Las Positas dropped to 1-9 after falling 69-58 to the host Monterey Peninsula Lobos in the first round. Hancock defeated Las Positas 61-48 to earn third place at Cuesta's tournament two weeks ago.
