Lady Bulldogs Beat Bakersfield 44-34, Beyers Records Double-Double

Karly Beyers recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 21 points and a career-tying-best 13 rebounds as the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team defeated Bakersfield 44-34 Saturday evening inside Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. After their second straight win, the Bulldogs evened their overall record at 8-8. The Renegades, who defeated Cuesta last night, fell to 5-10.

Beyers went 9-for-16 from the field, and hit 2-of-5 from 3-point range. The sophomore hit one of two from the free-throw line to score 21 points. Three of her 13 rebounds came on the offensive end of the court.

Lee-Hammer went 3-for-13 from the floor and hit one of five from long-range. Lee-Hammer went 4-for-4 from the line. The Colorado native added four rebounds and five assists. Sophomore center Grace Rosa finished with nine points and 11 rebounds, four came on the offensive end. Rosa went 4-for-10 from the field and 1-for-5 from the line. The Paso Robles High School graduate blocked four shots on the night.

Hancock trailed 5-3 midway through the first quarter, but Beyers and Lee-Hammer came to life to help the Bulldogs outscore the Renegades 10-2 the rest of the opening period. The Bulldogs led 13-7 after the first quarter and 26-13 at halftime. Beyers had 10 points in the first quarter and 14 at halftime. Lee-Hammer poured in seven points in the second quarter to give her nine at intermission.

Overall, Hancock sank 17-of-47 shots from the floor or 36 percent. The Bulldogs went 4-for-16 from 3-point range and 6-for-11 from the line. They held a 41-34 advantage in rebounds. Bakersfield shot 27 percent overall and hit only one of its 11 shots from 3-point range.

Hancock returns to action Saturday, January 13, at 5 p.m. when the Bulldogs open Western State Conference play at Ventura. The Pirates have won 27 straight WSC titles.
