Sophomores Lead Hancock Women to 52-39 Conference Victory at Santa Barbara

Karly Beyers drained four 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 20 points to lead a trio of Bulldogs in double figures as the Allan Hancock College women's basketball won at Santa Barbara City College 52-39 on Saturday evening. The Bulldogs, playing for the first time in a week, earned their first Western State Conference win of the season to improve to 1-1 in league and 9-9 overall. The Vaqueros dropped to 1-1 in league and 9-9 on the year.

The Vaqueros led 13-8 after the first quarter, but the Bulldogs outscored SBCC 17-8 in the second quarter to take control of the game and carry a 25-21 lead into halftime. Grace Rosa scored eight points and Taylor Lee-Hammer added six points in the second quarter.

Beyers hit three 3-point buckets in the third quarter to help Hancock outscore SBCC 17-8 in the third quarter to extend its lead to 42-29. A jumper from the Pioneer Valley High School graduate with 1:28 remaining in the third gave Hancock its largest lead of the game at 42-27. Beyers finished the night with 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists and one steal. The sophomore hit 8-of-13 from the floor overall and 4-of-7 from beyond-the-arc.

Rosa finished with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals. Rosa went 6-for-11 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line.

Lee-Hammer hit 3-of-8 overall, including one of her three shots from 3-point range to finish with 10 points. The sophomore guard added four steals and three assists. Calley Pruitt added six points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Holly Barrera led the Vaqueros with 18 points.

Overall, Hancock shot 50 percent from the field by sinking 19 of its 38 attempts. The Bulldogs went 5-for-13 from 3-point range and hit 64 percent of their 14 free throws.

The Bulldogs return home to host another Central Coast rival, Cuesta, on Wednesday, January 24, at 5 p.m. inside Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. Cuesta defeated Oxnard 53-43 on Saturday to improve to 1-1 in conference play and 9-7 on the year.
