Sophomore Salute: Rosa, Beyers and Lee-Hammer Lead Bulldogs to 72-34 Grounding of Condors

Sophomores Grace Rosa and Karly Beyers recorded double-doubles and Taylor Lee-Hammer scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team to a 72-34 rout over Oxnard in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs finished the regular season 7-3 in Western State Conference play and 15-11 overall. Hancock finished above .500 in conference for the first time in 17 seasons and wrapped up its third straight winning season under Head Coach Cary Nerelli, something the program had not done in 23 years.

Three-point buckets by Beyers, Hannah Walls and Lee-Hammer helped Hancock open the second quarter on a 10-0 run. The Bulldogs outscored the Condors 26-5 in the quarter as Lee-Hammer buried three from beyond-the-arc and finished with 11 points in the period. The Bulldogs also outscored the Condors 20-9 in the fourth quarter.

Lee-Hammer went 7-for-18 from the field overall and 5-for-9 from 3-point range to finish with 19 points. The sophomore guard added six rebounds, four steals and two assists.

Rosa recorded her sixth double-double of the season and tenth of her career with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Paso Robles High School graduate went 7-for-11 from the field and pulled five offensive rebounds in the win.

Beyers went 3-for-7 from 3-point range and 7-for-14 overall. She added 13 rebounds to tie a career high and earn her sixth double-double of the year. The sophomore added eight assists and four steals, falling two assists shy of a triple-double.

Walls added six points and seven rebounds. She was one of six sophomores, joined by Beyers, Rosa, Lee-Hammer, Anamarie Fruge and Vanessa Ortiz, honored during a pre-game ceremony.

The Bulldogs shot 42.6 percent overall (29-for-68) and 46 percent from long-range by hitting 11-of-24 from 3-point range. The Bulldogs finished with 52 rebounds, 17 on the offensive end, 19 assists and 14 steals.

Vanessa Maldonado led the Condors with 12 points. Oxnard shot 24.6 percent overall from the field and went 6-for-25 from 3-point range.

Hancock will find out Monday if its third-place finish in conference and 15-win season are enough to earn a playoff bid. The regional brackets and pairings will be released on Monday.
