Balance Fuels 55-37 Victory Over Cuesta

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Sophomore forward Danielle Morgan guided the Allan Hancock women's basketball program to a season-opening victory on Friday afternoon as the Bulldogs downed Cuesta inside the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium.

"It feels so great to be back! It was such a relief to our entire program to have the opportunity to step back on the floor in a meaningful manner," shared head coach Cary Nerelli. "Overall, I think we responded well and I'm proud of our defensive effort tonight. We're happy with the outcome but also remaining focused on our next challenge coming up against Bakersfield."

Morgan led the AHC offense in her 2021 debut after turning in an 18 point, 15 rebound double-double performance. She was red-hot from beyond the arc, going 3-for-4 on the night, and finished shooting 44 percent from the field. The Lompoc High School alum also added three assists, two steals, and one block to her resume. Jayci Bayne and Kayla Taylor made it a trio of Bulldogs scoring in double digits after boasting 11 and 10 points apiece, respectively. Jewelia Maniss provided a spark of the bench after grabbing 14 boards and chipping in five points.

As a team, the Bulldogs (1-0) held Cuesta (0-1) to a 25 percent shooting performance and forced 16 Cougar turnovers. AHC also held a hefty 54-35 advantage on the glass.

Allan Hancock is set to return to action on Thursday, March 11, with a home contest versus Bakersfield. Tip-off is set for 3 PM inside of the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium.
