SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A slow second quarter doomed the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team in the season opener against Hartnell College as they suffered a 49-40 loss at the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. | BOX SCORE
The Bulldogs closed the first quarter with a two-point lead, but trailed at the intermission after being outscored 11-2 in the second frame and were unable to overcome the lingering deficit down the stretch.
Despite the second quarter slump, Hancock outrebounded the Panthers at a 43-39 margin and finished with a 33.3 percent showing from the three-point line while limiting the visiting squad to 10.7 percent. Coach Smith's squad also gave up 18 points after committing 31 turnovers and were outscored in the paint, 30-14.
Khaelii Robertson-Mack led the way for AHC with a double-double after notching 14 points and 13 rebounds. Maggie Perez and Bree Luna followed with nine and seven points, respectively, while Katy Mathews and Tyrah Streeter nabbed seven rebounds apiece.
The Bulldogs will resume play with a three-day showing at the Wild West Shootout, hosted at West LA College, on November 8th. They'll face Palo Verde College on day one before a showdown with the hosting Wildcats on Saturday and a contest against Southwestern College on Sunday.
