Hancock Women's Soccer Team Looking for Additional Players

Allan Hancock College women's soccer head coach Adam McEvoy is looking to add players to provide depth for the upcoming season. The Bulldogs open their 2015 schedule Friday, August 28, at home against College of the Desert.

"My goal is to make Hancock's women's soccer program competitive again," added McEvoy. "My coaching philosophy is that hard work beats talent. My practices are harder than the games."

McEvoy has more than 10 years of coaching experience at the high school, club, university and professional soccer academy levels in the United States and overseas. He served as the varsity girl's soccer head coach last winter at Righetti High School. He guided the Warriors to a 15-3-2 overall record and C.I.F. playoff appearance.

"I like to bring energetic, exciting soccer to the field," said McEvoy. "I like to control games by maintaining possession of the ball. For me it's logical. It doesn't matter how big or small, how fast or slow, the players are. If they don't have the ball, they can't score."

Born in Burnley, a small town in England, McEvoy was scouted by a professional club team at a young age and started training at an academy. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in sports coaching from the University of Central Lancashire in England.

"Soccer is a religion in England. The love of the game is in my blood," said McEvoy. "I am thrilled for the opportunity to fulfill my dream of becoming a college coach in the United States. I am ready to step up to the challenge."

He said the motto of his hometown, 'The prize and the cause of our labors,' embodies the values and philosophies he works to instill in his players.

"I try to show the importance of working hard, having self-discipline, determination and respect for others," McEvoy said. "Through core values, we set a standard of behavior and expectation, which in turn lead to maximum success on the field and in the classroom."

Interested athletes should contact McEvoy at adam.mcevoy@hancockcollege.edu or call (805) 714-8947. Students must be registered for fall classes at Hancock to be eligible to play women's soccer for the Bulldogs.

The 2015 schedule features 16 games, including 12 Western State Conference – North Division contests.
